About The Role

We are looking for a talented and creative Lead 2D Layout Artist to join the studio for an exciting upcoming 2D project!

As part of the Layout team, artists will provide linework background art and any additional assets needed for an episode. As a Lead you will work closely with the Art Director and Director. You will have in-depth knowledge of Photoshop, strong organisational skills and be able to work to tight deadlines.

Leading the layout team, you will be required to work in the style of the show, providing the environment art pack for the team to work off of. The Layout Artists will be working directly from a storyboard and responsible for preparing and completing the required shots while considering camera placement, mood, composition, and perspective, ready for the Background Paint team. 

This opportunity is due to start early September 2024.

Day to Day:

  • Set up Photoshop files and create skillful animation layout drawings based on storyboard panels whilst maintaining the show style
  • Review and give clear and constructive feedback & fixes to the Layout team
  • Accurately interpret the perspective and composition laid out in a storyboard
  • Awareness of the scope of the show
  • Planning for re-use of Background assets
  • Use your knowledge and skills to strengthen the show's visual language
  • Support the team with fixes when necessary
  • Communicate with the Background Paint team to help them with any fixes they need for ongoing episodes
  • Work and adapt to tight deadlines
  • All team members will be required to organise their workflow using the work trackers provided and keeping the tracker updated on the progress of each background will be essential for working together smoothly

About You

Must Have:

  • Experience in Layout including a comprehensive understanding of the stages required to take a shot from start to finish
  • Excellent perspective skills
  • A great sense of composition and staging
  • Excellent ability to adapt to the required design style and interpret concept designs into the desired layout
  • In depth technical knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
  • Great sense of character posing and action staging
  • Ability to provide written and visual feedback to the team
  • Able to take direction and willing to take on board constructive feedback
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Able to meet deadlines and the production schedule

Bonus Points:

  • Previous experience working on a 2D animated show
  • Experience using Shotgrid
