About The Role

We're on the look out for a highly-creative and experienced Assistant Director to join our 2D team on an exciting high-end project!
As Assistant Director you will supervise all aspects of production from a directing perspective, from cleaned up animatic until picture lock stage. At the end of the animatic process you will gain an understanding of the Director / Show Creator's vision for an episode and see that vision through to the final stages of the locked episode, prior to final Post Production.
We are looking for an Assistant Director to join us in September 2020.
Day to Day:
  • Manage the day to day direction of an episode, ensuring the shared vision of the Director / Show Creator is maintained between key stages - including Design, Rigging, Layout and Background, Animation, Compositing and FX and Editing.
  • Provide clear and timely decisive feedback to Leads, Heads of Departments, and Directors to ensure that client and Director's notes are understood and production deadlines are met efficiently.
  • Oversee revisions and provide notes ongoing to ensure the style and vision for the show is maintained.
  • Lead Scene Build team. Attend scene build meetings, kick offs and reviews, guide and preempt any issues during scene set up to ensure smooth running of an episode as it moves into animation.
  • Provide status updates, troubleshoot, and review potential changes on a regular basis with production staff
  • Where necessary participate in the talent acquisition process with the Line Producer and recruitment team to review portfolios and tests, interview candidates, and provide detailed feedback.

About You

Must Have:
  • Prior experience as a Director, Assistant Director or Episodic Director working in television series animation, preferably 2D pipelines
  • At least 5+ years of industry experience working in television animation, with a strong understanding of Design, 2D Rigging, Layout/Background design, Animation and Editing.
  • Prior experience of leading different teams, troubleshooting both creative, technical and people related issues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to feedback in a clear and constructive manner.
  • Ability to manage their own time efficiently and work to strict deadlines.

  • Knowledge of Toon Boom Harmony
