About The Role

Blue Zoo is internationally recognised as the UK’s leading producer of quality children’s animated entertainment, known for its premium quality TV specials and television properties.  

We're always on the lookout for talented artists as we continue to build our amazingly creative teams! We have a number of our own productions in development and underway, as well as undertaking exciting service work for many of the world's globally recognised children's entertainment brands.

As a Senior Pipeline TD you’ll be responsible for implementing, improving and supporting production and artist workflows, to better function for the wider studio across a range of different animated shows.

Day to Day:

  • Hands-on implementation in design, scheduling, and build of our “next generation” of pipeline, built on micro-service architecture, whilst ensuring a smooth transition from our current pipeline.
  • Develop the pipeline tools to cater to our studio’s short-form, episodic, and feature animation project needs.
  • Devise methods to increase efficiency and utilisation to fit with global strategy.
  • Help resolve technical issues that have been escalated within the team.
  • Lead development of additional both studio core services and tools to be used in DCC software programmes.
  • Ensure departments are using the pipeline tools effectively and efficiently,
  • Asist junior team members with issues, and guide them through resolution delivery in both coding practices and briefing.

About You

Must Have:

  • Very clear, efficient, and effective communication skills when dealing with HoDs or other stakeholders in pipeline support and projects.
  • Experience with test driven development and software development practices
  • High level of proficiency with  Python programming 
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of feature and/or episodic  film animation pipelines
  • In-depth technical knowledge of Maya with other DCCs considered a bonus
  • Understanding of software development tools - Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code
  • Proficiency with source control and development workflows control in Github or similar.
  • Proactive approach to researching & adopting new tools proofing software workflows.
  • Experience in agile software development methodologies, task management tools (Jira/Asana/Wrike) & asset tracking systems (Ftrack/Shotgun)
  • Ability to mentor the rest of the team to increase productivity, trust and respect
  • Motivate the team through executive presence
  • Solution-driven
  • Strong problem-solving skills devising elegantly creative solutions or workarounds.
  • Ability to learn new tools quickly
  • Extremely good organisation skills when juggling multiple projects and priorities belonging to different stakeholders
  • Proactive and positive approach to resolving issues under pressure
  • Excellent English writing skills for creating and reviewing easy to understand documentation

Bonus Points:

  • Production experience of Ftrack, Redshift3D, USD & Realtime technologies
  • Experience within animation, VFX or games industry previously
  • Experience with Katana, Houdini or other DCCs.
