About The Role

The Creative Lead will be creating and curating the visual development for new projects, developing styles for characters, sets and world building. The role will incorporate taking the lead on a variety of projects, working in conjunction with the Creative Directors on others, and on occasion acting solely as an artist.

Day to Day:

You will be:

  • Taking the lead on developing a relationship with clients and subsequently developing briefs alongside them
  • Researching and providing exploratory moodboards and sketches for sets and characters, based on the developed or previously approved brief, where appropriate 
  • Provide Colour Keys and Digital Paintings which are going to be translated into a 3D world
  • Produce detailed drawings/thumbnails/schematics at correct scale as required
  • Setting up briefs and holding review sessions with art director and design team
  • Regularly communicating  your or the Creative Directors vision to the team
  • Collaborate/communicate with the client and the wider company, as required 
  • When required, leading and directing a small team of multidisciplinary artists
  • Working with the Department Manager to design and plan the project workflow and deliverables 
  • Maintaining an awareness of and adherence to budgets and schedules throughout the project, working in conjunction with the Department Manager
  • Responding positively to and providing notes and feedback
  • Assisting the Department Manager on recruitment and scoping needs

About You

Must have:

  • Excellent aesthetic judgement with strong skills in drawing, painting and attention to detail
  • Adaptable to different styles of show
  • A portfolio that demonstrates a variety of set and character design options that fit into a story/world
  • Be able to present work in a clear and concise manner that demonstrates thought process and purpose 
  • Strong communication skills, both client facing and internally for briefings and feedback
  • Excellent knowledge of tools and software such as Cintiq, Photoshop, or other applicable design software
  • Creative flair and ingenuity when proposing new visual treatments
  • Excellent understanding of colours, lighting and value structure
  • Excellent understanding of volumes, turnarounds and perspective for characters
  • Excellent understanding and demonstration of perspective drawing for environments.
  • Strong compositional understanding and use of cinematography for visual storytelling and world building
  • Able to visually develop and design characters, sets and environments for 2D and 3D mediums through sophisticated exploratory designs.
  • Being a team player, great collaborator and leader, leading by example
  • Creative problem solving
  • Able to give and receive design related feedback
  • Excellent time management skills in meeting design deadlines from concept to final deliverables for the entire team
  • A degree or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years industry experience in a similar role

Bonus Points:

  • Previous experience as a lead  and good interpersonal skills
  • Passion for storytelling
  • Understanding of 3D design, modelling, texturing and animation workflow
  • Good skills in graphic design and stylized textures is a plus
  • Good understanding of Digital Matte painting process
  • Ability to block environments roughly in 3D
