About The Role

As Department Manager you are responsible for proactively helping establish effective communication and collaboration, enabling the teams in your department to be super efficient and steering artists to focus on agreed priorities. This will increase the quality and efficiency of our work, as well as staff satisfaction levels.

You will be responsible for managing artists and team schedules, team resources and budgets across all respective departments.

You will also collaborate daily with Heads of Department, Head of Productions and production teams on team and artist scheduling as well as resourcing on projects.

You will work closely with Heads of Department and the People & Talent team on succession planning, identifying training needs and staff development .

Day to Day:

  • Serve as the main point of coordination and contact between each team in the department and the studio's senior management and key personnel. 
  • Responsible for overseeing and managing scheduling, deadlines/milestones and budgeting across all respective departments.
  • Drive continuous feedback from teams in the department and plan goals and objectives in line with studio goals.
  • Help unify and coordinate tasks that require work from multiple teams and departments.
  • Support recruitment across the departments and manage hiring requests in line with department and studio demands.
  • Work with the recruitment team to work towards meeting our studio’s diversity goals when hiring new team members.
  • Administrative support for the teams e.g. department onboarding, flexible working requests, time off and well being.
  • Manage contract extensions and crew changes.
  • Be the go to person for problem solving and managing challenges across the different departments.
  • Responsible for reporting on behalf of the Department on current and future workloads, issues and resourcing.
  • Endeavour to constantly be aware of, and minimise, your energy use and carbon footprint, to help the studio reach our goal of carbon neutrality by 2030.

About You

Must Have:

  • Encourage a collaborative team approach to all aspects of work.
  • Extremely strong problem-solving skills devising elegantly creative solutions or workarounds even when under pressure.
  • Very clear and strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Strong project management skills and an understanding of the importance of meeting deadlines and deliveries.
  • Experience in managing budgets and keeping to financial targets.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Ability to lead a team, manage diverse personalities and viewpoints; the ability to build relationships and collaborate with others is vital.
  • Demonstrate and lead on the values, initiatives and culture of an organisation

Bonus Points: 

  • Knowledge or experience in the animation industry (or similar industry i.e games/VFX)
