About The Role

As Head of Pipeline, you will be responsible for overseeing the research, design, development, testing and maintenance of the 3D animation pipeline. You will be supporting 3D animated series, short form, and development teams. You will work closely with other technical department leads to establish common working practices and shared knowledge. Your goal is to deliver the greatest improvement to studio efficiency and production quality, ensuring our studio continues to make content everyone is proud of, and has enjoyed making.

 
Day to Day:
  • Lead the design, scheduling and build of our “next generation” USD-based pipeline, whilst ensuring a smooth transition from our current pipeline.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in other departments to meet their prioritised needs.
  • Strategize and execute plans to maintain our studio’s reputation as a successful leader through innovation.
  • Oversee successful software development methodologies within the pipeline team.
  • Manage and develop the pipeline’s flexibility to cater for our studio’s shortform, episodic and feature animation project needs.
  • Communicate to the studio the roadmap/schedule and monthly progress updates.
  • Devise methods to increase efficiency and utilization to fit with global strategy.
  • Oversee the ticketing system and ensure it is functioning well and monitor/report the response and resolution time metrics.
  • Help resolve technical issues that have been escalated within the team.
  • Work with the Head of 2D Pipeline for development of shared pipeline tools and aligned pipeline strategy.
  • Work with the Workflow Coordinator to ensure priorities are accurate.
  • Lead development of additional tools to be used in DCC software programmes.
  • Lead development of additional standalone automation tools.
  • Keep up to date with latest industry technology trends, developments and updates
  • Ensure department are using the pipeline tools effectively and efficiently
  • Give clear performance expectations, appraisals and reviews to direct reports

About You

Must Have:

  • Proficient at programming in: Python, Javascript, C++
  • In depth knowledge and experience of feature film animation pipelines
  • In depth technical knowledge of Maya & Houdini
  • Understanding of software development tools - Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code
  • Understanding of codebase management: Github
  • Proactive approach to researching & adopting new tools and of video review/proofing software tools
  • Experience of agile software development methodologies, task management tools (Jira/Asana/Wrike) & asset tracking systems (Ftrack/Shotgun)
  • Ability to instill trust and respect within the team, provide strong team leadership and mentorship to increase productivity
  • Motivate the team through demonstrated leadership ability and executive presence.
  • Encourage team development through giving accountability and delegation.
  • Encourage collaborative team approach to all aspects of work.
  • Extremely strong problem solving skills devising elegantly creative solutions or work-arounds.
  • Ability to learn new tools quickly
  • Extremely good organisation skills when juggling multiple projects and priorities belonging to different stakeholders
  • Very clear, efficient and effective communication skills
  • Proactive and positive approach to resolving issues under pressure
  • Excellent English writing skills for creating and reviewing easy to understand documentation

  • Production experience of Ftrack, Redshift3D, USD & realtime technologies
